WITH all the media coverage about Scotland leaving the United Kingdom, I find all the arguments put forward by politicians and business organisations very confusing.

I have no political or financial interests in Scotland, so my comments are just about the sadness I feel that Scotland might break away from the United Kingdom.

For many years now the union of Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England formed a pack that accomplished a great deal that has influenced the world in science, inventions, and industrial might.

The United States of America is the most powerful country in the world, I do not feel that any one of its states would want to break away from that union.

Heated debate

I WAS in Lewis last weekend. There seemed to be a Yes banner on every hillside on the way up, and by the time we returned there was a No beside every one. I wonder who is going to take them down?

The debate seems to becoming more heated and less rational by the minute. It is splitting families and communities.

The number of people threatening to leave Scotland if there is a Yes vote is unbelievable.

However, they all seem to be concerned with materialistic values, so maybe we would be better off without them.

Canal warning

I was moved by the plea for safety improvements after recent canal tragedies and feel for the families involved.

And I am sure something can be done as regards better lighting and fencing on certain narrow stretches of the tow path.

But I don't think CCTV and a high fence are really necessary.

Surely adults know the canal is there, and the level of care that must be taken?

Hail King's

I ENJOYED your article on 110 years of the King's Theatre. Such great acts - many of which we will never see the like again.

It is great that we still have so many grand old theatres in Glasgow which are enjoying packed audiences.
