IT is an absolute disgrace that hard- working people have to go begging for food for their families at food banks.

I am sure this country's MPs and MSPs won't go begging for theirs. They should hang their heads in shame.

After reading in Thursday's Evening Times about the Christmas dinner at the Scotstoun food bank, I found it hard to understand how we have reached such a low point.

Parking fee hike

As a motorist I am fed up with the constant increase in parking charges.

I understand the city council wants to make as much money as possible but the doubling and trebling of charges is outrageous.

Soon no-one will be able to afford to park in Glasgow, so we might as well get used to shopping in the out of town centres, where parking is free.

Manners shock

When was the last time someone held the door open for you?

Well I was astonished when it happened for me while I was doing my last minute shopping.

Everyone was in a rush, but an elderly gentleman, and I use that term correctly, did just that as I tried to manoeuvre a large box through the door.

So often have I been cut up at a junction while driving, or barged into on the high street, so this was a lovely surprise.

I hope the people who pushed through after me made a note of this man's actions - somehow I don't think they did.
