In a time of such deprivation you would think that charity shops would be eager to accept donated items, but apparently not, as they've too many rules and regulations to follow.

My local hospice shop, in Shettleston Road, don't take display units or wardrobes above a certain height, nor mattresses, even though its got all the orthopaedic labels on it from Blindcraft.

All these daft rules, when folk just want furniture and a bed to sleep in.

I think the charity sector should just pick up people's goods when offered instead of rejecting them because of rules and regulations.

Lunch lessons

I think education chiefs have got it wrong. They should be encouraging pupils to take their shop-bought lunches back into school.

I live between Lourdes High School and Ross Hall Academy. Every day I see these kids drop half eaten meals and drinks cartons and other rubbish all over the road.

When some are having to use food banks to live, let them take their food into the school, where the teachers can tell them how they should behave with food.

Brave Lynda

SO SAD to hear that actress Lynda Bellingham has lost her cancer battle. I used to love watching her in the TV series of All Creatures Great and Small.

She always seemed like a lovely lady. Now, we can add, courageous.

Houston Brewery

LAST week, the Evening Times carried an article linking my name to the Houston Brewery - "Houston adds Brute to its beer line up".

I did establish the brewery in 1997, but my family sold both the Fox & Hounds and Brewery two years ago to a limited company MRY 500.

I remained for a year as brewery consultant but have not been involved with the brewery since December 2013.

Any new beers launched by Houston are nothing to do with me.
