AS AN English observer of the Scottish game, I was hoping the new manager would set a good example by rebalancing the club's books in favour of supporters.

But by her address to business leaders in Glasgow, Nicola Sturgeon has shown that her aim is to "enhance competitiveness".

She will continue to let the club's global owners make huge profits, pay star players enormous salaries and charge supporters exorbitant entrance fees for a pathetic game in a sub-standard stadium.

As for those unable to go through the turnstile, it is the only game in town, that or nothing.

Stars pay up

WITHIN five minutes of being released "Feed The World" had already raised £1million.

What a testament to the generosity of the UK's citizens.

Even more brilliant news is Bob and Midge's pledge on behalf of the musicians to match the sum raised. Whoever said rich stars don't have a heart has been proved wrong.

Hospital praise

HAVING been through the Golden Jubilee Hospital, I have seen abandoned wheelchairs in the car parks, at the riverside walkway and adjoining hotel (Evening Times, November 29).

Well done to the hospital for trying to tackle this type of problem.

Arrears shame

REGARDING one in five councillors late paying council tax, these councillors should have been named (Evening Times, December 1).

It's obviously a case of 'when the collectors see who I am they won't chase me for unpaid council tax' - and 2474 employees have failed to pay their council tax.

I pay my yearly council tax over 10 months, but by mistake paid an extra month. I had to wait months for a refund.

The reason given for the delay was that they were checking to find out if I was in arrears, which I wasn't.
