WHAT a lovely article on the heyday of cinemas in Govan.

As a resident from 1951 to 1971, I can remember them all with great affection.

In those days we always had a big film and a wee film. Pathe News gave us moving pictures of what we had seen in the news. Going on to the Odeon, Renfield Street, I saw a few films there but not often.

I was very fortunate to see The Beatles for the sum of 17/6 which would be 87 and a half pence. I also saw the Rolling Stones, who were support of Little Richard.

The lady mentioned in the article, Flora Pagan was certainly spoiled for choice as did all who belonged to Govan. Great memories. They all had their own character with the Lyceum the flagship.

LAST week's Evening Times article by Angela McManus highlighting art classes at Inverclyde Community Care Forum is just the tonic to bolster confidence, offer new skills and encourage inspiration to those affected by long-term unemployment, depression, and various addiction related illnesses.

The winning combination of expert tuition from Gourock artist Anne McKay, funding from local authority Your Voice and the vibrant enthusiasm of debaters group members make this such a worthwhile and rewarding enterprise. Other local authorities please take note.

Regards the council saving £24 million, that really means cutting services by £24 million.

The Scottish Government warned £20 billion of cuts will come if Scotland votes no because the UK Government is £1.3 Trillion in debt due to the failed economics of London Labour and the Tories.

They were wrong, it's worse than predicted. The debt is now £1.5 trillion and the cuts are going to be £30 billion or more.

London Labour have pledged to follow Tory austerity policies. That's one vow they don't want to talk about.

Where are the "savings" when it comes to cutting fat cat mega salaries and bonuses and huge pension deals or councillor's perks and pay.

Regards agony for Gran in hospital delay, I hope Cathy gets better. She certainly deserved better.

The photo and the story will put a chill on anyone over a certain age if they think this is the way they will be treated. I was a day patient at Gartnavel last week and had a minor operation. The whole episode was first class from start to finish so why is there so much ado about A&E?
