What lovely article on Vera Weisfield.

Vera comes over as a very genuine, and gentle lady, who most certainly knew her business, inside-out.

You never, ever forgot your roots and I suspect that your mother and father's upbringing in Coatbridge, ensured that you, "kept your feet on the ground."

Your own hard work, which resulted in a totally successful retail business, brought financial rewards, for you and Gerald.

Let us not forget the secure employment that your organisation also provided for many of Glasgow's citizens.

My wife also fondly recalls the weekly in-store scrum on the day that your new stock was being hung out for display.

Your staff could not get the goods out of their boxes, as "bargain-hunters", were opening the boxes before they were priced.

Regards rail link for future airport plans, indeed this is good news. I really hope it is a train and not a tramtrain. Even with train to the city centre, which is great, but it really has to connect through crossrail which is already in working use.

It is terrible news to start the year with so many people finding their jobs at risk. Two companies in the last few days reporting difficulties, I suspect they won't be the last. Some workers might not even have seen it coming and will have enjoyed Christmas - not realising the bills might be difficult to pay.

It does seem that our High Street shops are disappearing before our vary eyes and it doesn't look like it will improve any time soon.

At long last we consumers are finally seeing a difference at the petrol pumps. It has taken long enough. For years we have been paying through the nose for fuel unlike our American cousins.

For a country like ours which relies on transport links for commerce, it is about time the fuel prices were slashed. I think it a great start, but let's not stop there. There are many things which us would come under the banner of rip off Britain - let's get car prices down too.
