I feel Jim Murphy MP does protest too much at the treatment he has been receiving as he proceeds across Scotland with his soapbox.

In the volatile and acrimonious atmosphere which now exists weeks before the electorate decides on this country's future, he is naïve to expect the public to greet him with a loud ovation and handclapping.

In any case, with the Mother of Parliament now in session after its long summer slumber, might he not be in his place of work fighting for his constituents?

Ship's story

Regarding the comment in Memories on the picture of MV Lochdunvegan, this ship, originally named Ornen, was built in Gothenburg for a Dutch Company and purchased by David MacBrayne Ltd in 1950. It was withdrawn in autumn 1973 and sold to Greek owners.

Driven crazy

In reply to John Watcher (Letters Wednesday) regarding West End parking restrictions, I for one am pleased something is being done at last, and I don't mind paying. I'm sick of coming home almost every evening from work and having to drive around for up to half an hour looking for somewhere to park as I can't park in my own street.

Clutha tribute

It was very touching to see that the police personnel involved in the Clutha helicopter crash have had their names added to the Scottish Police Memorial. It might give their families some comfort to know their bravery will not be forgotten.

College chaos

Regarding the 'shambles' at Glasgow Kelvin College, I don't think all issues have been solved. It's chaos. You sense staff are strained. One person will tell you something one day and you go back next day and are told that's incorrect.
