IN RESPONSE to Thomas Donnelly's letter of September 22, I can only wonder where Mr Donnelly has been for the past couple of decades.

The Scottish Labour party has been losing members at an alarming rate as a direct cause of its rejection of the old Labour values. I speak as one such. It has adopted so many Tory ideals that it is practically indistinguishable from them.

I would remind Mr Donnelly that the SNP has won two consecutive Scottish Parliamentary elections, the second of which was with an overall majority that allowed it to take forward its manifesto promise of holding a referendum - that is hardly a one-off.

The contemptuous breaking of the powers vow by both Miliband and Cameron which has stunned the No voters will, I am sure, consolidate the position of the independence parties and decimate unionists.

Alex gave up

ALEX SALMOND: some people like him, others don't - this was obvious when Yes supporters claimed the referendum was not just about him.

But isn't he the one who, rather than stay to get the result the people wanted, resigned in a huff? Is this the sign of a statesman who could have taken an independent Scotland into an uncertain world?

I think not.

Food shame

REGARDING the impromptu George Square foodbank, the real Glasgow indeed.

As was said, "People make Glasgow", but it shouldn't be necessary and we all know who to blame for that.

Go Katherine!

I HAVE to commend Katherine Grainger for biding to take part in the Olympics in 2016.

The dedication it must have taken to take the gold medal at London 2012, is beyond most people, but to now consider doing it all again that takes real strength.

I wish her well.
