What kind of country are we when this 17-year-old is so cruelly abused? She is a credit to herself and her educational ambitions should be supported to at the highest level by all concerned.

Warm welcome

We had just landed after a long, long flight from New Zealand at Glasgow airport. We had to get to Glasgow Central railway station to catch our train home to Carlisle.

We went to look for the bus stop at the airport to Paisley Gilmour Street station. We met a most pleasant, helpful young man who guided us on to the right bus. The bus driver was most helpful and told us the right stop to get off and wished us well.

The bus filled up during our tour of Paisley to the Gilmour Street and we have never met such friendly, helpful people. We caught the train to Glasgow Central and met there again the most friendly helpful staff. We would just like to thank the Glasgow and Paisley people for the warm and helpful welcome they gave to three weary travellers. Bodes well for the Commonwealth Games.

Fire checks

REGARDING your story about a mum locked in shop after fire alarm, changing rooms and toilets should always be checked. I'm deaf - and unless there's an accompanying visual, flashing fire alarm warning, I'd probably be unaware of any (especially high-pitched) audio one sounding.
