REGARDING Mark Beumont's call for a change in the law to protect cyclists.

Maybe try educating cyclists properly that would be a start. What about the cyclists who insist on dressing head to foot in black, no reflective gear on, hardly any light on their bike and driving along a country road in the pitch black when you don't actually see them until you almost hit them. Surely that wouldn't be the car drivers fault. Then there's the idiots who weave in and out of traffic, up and down onto pavements and shoot out between parked cars. I suggest they bring in some sort of test that cyclists must take before being allowed on roads, along with having to wear high viz gear and a helmet.

AS Someone who has worked in the emergency service for 30 years we see the worst in both bad driving and cycling, yes we can blame both parties reckless and dangerous driving and cycling.

I also cycle almost every day of the year. I wear the correct clothing, I have ample lighting on my bikes but you always get the clowns who rev up behind you, blast the horn as they speed by cut so you have to brake severely.

Of course the reckless cyclist who cut through red lights and jump kerbs should be done for not following the highway code.

And if like me you cycle on the road daily you should have some sort of insurance. It's a hard one but something has to be done to protect both parties.
