Regards crime falling during the Commonwealth Games (Thursday), obviously proof that high levels of policing on the streets cuts crime and creates a confidence in people about their safety.

Politicians should take serious notice of these results and implement a policy of more policing.

It also helped that the police, during the period of the games, were much more responsive, interactive, and pleasant with the general public. Maybe Sir Stephen House should take notice and implement a policy of more interactive pleasant policing.

I'd love to see it, though doubt I will with budgets etc. However, pleasantness and civility cost nothing. Chief Constable House please take note.

Labour's cheek

Isn't it great. Labour was in power for more than a decade and could have re-nationalised the railways, but didn't.

Now they have the audacity to criticise the SNP who could do little because of Westminster's legislative stranglehold. The Tories?

Well we have the North East Main Line operating on a nationalised basis and returning more to The Exchequer than any of the privatised companies ever did and they are determined to return it to a private sector. Perverse is an understatement.

Waiting times

I was shocked and horrified to read about the long waiting times at the Victoria Infirmary (Friday). It must be awful to be in that situation as a patient and a relative.

However, I do feel for the staff there. What else are they do to? They can't magic beds out of thin air.

Bank charges

So the Clydesdale Bank owners were exposed selling unneccessary PPIs to many folk, no doubt many of their customers (Friday).

Now as a result of compensation/sanctions they are ramping up charges.

I know if I was a customer at this bank and received a letter saying charges were going up, I think I would be changing banks pronto.
