IT'S not in Douglas Alexander's interests to value the NHS or the staff who work there.

He has to continually criticise it - why?

Well for the last few weeks he has been running an advertising campaign on facebook called "Keep up to date with the campaign to end the A&E crisis at the RAH."

This slogan and his attempts to use the hardworking staff of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, to smear the SNP is contemptible. Yes, in an organisation as large as the NHS there are problems but there are also local health boards charged with solving these problems. Unfortunately in the case of the RAH there are seven Labour councillors - and no single councillor from any other party on the local health board. Isn't it about time Mr Alexander started to challenge what these councillors are doing if he truly believes there is an A&E crisis at the RAH?

IN regards to Glasgow City Council winning the best council in Great Britain, how bad must the rest be if this disgraceful organisation can win such an award? Has the glorious leader who gave such an impassioned speech at the start of the games even inspected his little empire? The state of the buildings that the workers are forced to work in is a disgrace. However the lovely people in the chambers are just swell, you just need to look in the council magazine to see that.

I WAS in West Regent Street when I thought it was a helicopter coming across Blythswood Square but it was a souped up hatchback, very noisy but a fairly new car and obviously legal and above board. I wonder how they can be stopped from driving in the area.

Must admit hotel guests, who say they are kept awake, have a point.

FURTHER to your report of March 17 about the anti social problems at the corner near the Hielanman's Umbrella and the initiative to block off an alcove I notice that further improvements are taking place. A derelict piece of ground at the back covered in litter once used as a car park has been fenced off. The corner appears to be getting more police attention. The corner also seems to be less of a gathering point.

There seems to be some momentum to improve this busy spot in the city centre. I would like to think your report and subsequent letters helped to fuel these initiatives.
