REGARDING the parking permit scheme for residents near the new Southern General - the hospital is for the benefit of all citizens in Glasgow and I think it is unfair that residents should be landed with a £50 charge for living in the area.

Surely the small amount of revenue raised could easily be absorbed in council tax.

Perhaps fewer overseas jollies would pay for it.

Shed light on briefs

AS A resident in Glasgow paying my council tax I have tried and failed to get hold of tickets for the Christmas lights switch-on every year.

I'd like to know where these tickets go and why we always seem to fail.

Glasgow City Council should rethink their allocation plan to make it fairer to the people of Glasgow who live, work and pay their taxes in this city.

Freedom thanks

WHAT a wonderful gesture for the Royal Marines to be given the Freedom of the City. It sends a strong message that we fully support what our armed services do for us and we appreciate the sacrifices they make. I hope they have a wonderful day on Saturday.

Drink limit clear

ON the subject of drink driving, the message couldn't be clearer - don't drink if you intend to drive in the morning.

When the new limit is introduced Police Scotland will have road blocks on every major road.

Sick at suffering

I FELT sick after reading about the collie that had to be put to sleep by a vet after enduring unspeakable cruelty from its owner.

The dog had a massive growth on its neck, which had become ulcerated and must have suffered terribly.

I'm appalled that Robert Docherty was given only a community payback order by the court. It hardly serves as a warning to other pet owners.
