Historic Scotland, an Edinburgh-based Government agency, is presumably not going to start charging for entry to the capital's St Giles' Cathedral, so why are they planning to charge visitors to Glasgow Cathedral?

How are they going to distinguish between genuine worshippers and tourists?

The point about staff and visitors from the neighbouring Royal Infirmary is well made.

You wish to pray for your mother's recovery? £2.50 please!

And does anyone imagine that any of the profits will go towards the maintenance of the cathedral?

This is obscene and totally against the teachings of the New Testament.

Money medics

I see that doctors are going to be paid £55 for every patient they diagnose with dementia. I always thought that was their job ... to diagnose patients.

Many already earn £100,000 plus a year. What with payments for flu jabs, filling in forms and other extras, some docs only work a three or four day week.

In the old days, it didn't matter when you phoned your doctor, he always came out. Now, it is all highly paid locums that appear.

I went for my flu jab and it was a locum. Where was my doc?

SO, the latest craze to hit our city streets is the 'Selfie-stick'. I wonder if it will catch on?

Given that our youngsters won't leave the house till they've got their tan on or the latest labels on show, it's hard to see how their 'selfie-image' will survive standing in the street with their phone stuck on the end of a pole!

Time goes by

SAD to read of the death of Alvin Stardust and the loss of another '70s star in the wake of Linda Bellingham and Lynsey de Paul.

I certainly makes us children of the '50s realise time marches on!
