Now that Alex Salmond has scrapped historic Poll Tax debts, does that mean that those of us who were forced by law to pay that despised tax can expect to get our money back?

My family were on a low income but, because we qualified for Family Credit, we had to pay full rent and Poll Tax and were not entitled to rebates of any kind.

If the non-payers walk away without having paid a penny, then this is most definitely a breach of our human rights.

Farcical circus

The right to be treated fairly and humanely has been wildly and absurdly abused by the Human Rights brigade.

Unfortunately, what should be a safety net against Establishment excesses has been turned into a circus of farcical appeals and a dripping roast for the legal profession.

That there is a need for protection against Establishment excesses is beyond doubt but let's see what is being proposed by the Tories before making any sudden moves.

Seen to be safe

RegardING the new Cycle Aware scheme launches this week in Glasgow, the biggest step that cyclists can take to protect themselves is to wear a hi-vis top.

There will always be the people who say that, as it is not the law, they won't do it Those are, I suspect, the ones most likely to be in an accident or near miss.

Buy British

Apparently, last Friday was Buy British Day - it's a shame it was just for one day.

We should be encouraging both consumers at home and export companies to think that way all year round.

Back the BID

I HOPE businesses in Paisley back the BID scheme (October 3).

It breaks my heart to see what was once a busy and bustling town centre looking like a ghost-town.

Us Buddies deserve a whole lot better.
