Being a pensioner, my television is my entertainment, so it is switched on from early morning.

My heart breaks at all the charity appeals for poor wee children, either starving, needing fresh water, going blind, dying of ebola, abused, homeless, neglected, orphaned, the list, unfortunately, goes on.

This week, we will be asked to donate to the Children in Need appeal. But now I read that the charity has countless millions held in bank accounts, gathering interest, and not being spent in the manner we the public thought it was donated for.

Who is responsible for this fund and why has this been allowed to happen?

Vote reality

In reply to C Milligan's letter, suggesting the SNP should look in the mirror when criticising Labour's pact with the Tories in the referendum.

What C Milligan forgets to mention is that the minority Labour Government in 1979 lost the vote of confidence not because of the SNP, but because of the votes of the Liberals (Labour's former coalition partners) and because of a "gentlemen's agreement" between Walter Harrison and Bernard Weatherill.

The Labour politician freed the Tory from the convention of abstaining from the vote because of the illness of Sir Alfred Broughton, a Labour MP, who was too ill to vote. Labour lost the vote by one, so the reality is that Labour brought its own government down.

Late drinking

Regarding the nightclub boss loses bid for 3am licence extension. While I agree that the present imbalance of opening hours should be sorted out, is it really necessary for clubbers to drink until 3am in the morning?

Vintage stuff

LOOKING forward to making use of the new Glasgow/Bordeaux flights. Bordeaux is a fabulous city, with lots of Scottish connections.

Thanks to the Auld Alliance, Scot merchants used to get the pick of the best wines.
