Rail trips won't stop

I WISH people would stop getting hysterical about the closure of Queen Street Station.

The station was opened in 1842, and I know for a fact that no major work has been carried out in the tunnel since I worked there in the late 1950s.

As they are going to electrify the line, obviously the road bed will have to be dropped to accommodate overhead wires.

Some passengers are going to be inconvenienced by slightly longer journey times, or arriving at Central Station, but there will still be train services between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Drop the fine

WHAT a sad story about the bus lane fine for the man rushing to his dying mother-in-law's bedside.

He should be excused payment for that reason; but the council seems to be criticised here - unfairly in my view - for not knowing his personal circumstances.

I sat in a queue of traffic yesterday and watched the buses pass quickly past my car, through clear bus lanes. Generally, the system seems to work well.

Prison shame

I COULD not believe my eyes and ears when I saw and heard on the news that a new prison has flat screen TVs and under-floor heating in the cells.

I am all for helping the inmates to have a better life when they have served their time and are released.

But there are people out there who obey the law and, through no fault of their own, have to go to food banks to feed their families, and there are pensioners who can't afford to put their heating on.

Maybe they could go to the new prison's gym to keep warm. I think it is a disgrace.

Lovely grub

WHAT a beautiful meal we had at Urban Bar and Brasserie after winning the Celtic Connections competition along with tickets for Sadie and the Hotheads. Thank you.
