I WOULDN'T thank you for the reek of the Barras but the old Glasgow Subway was something else, (Memories, October 30)

I visited the Marble Arch caves in Fermanagh last year and on the way back to the surface I encountered the same aroma.

I was riveted to the spot and couldn't believe the aroma of the draft that was hitting me. It took me way back 40 years to that wonderful wee Subway before it went orange.

"Eau de Glasgow Subway" would be in demand from folks of my vintage. Thanks for the memories - keep them coming.

Students hit

I REALISE university lecturers felt their only way to get their point across regarding pay was to go on strike, but you have to feel for the students.

It cost thousands to get degree and any disruption to their studies is unfair.

Drink law

SURELY the police have better things to do with their time than visit bars with licences to sell alcohol before 11am, (City calls time on breakfast bar booze, November 1)

My daughter used to be a nurse in intensive care and after seven straight night's of 12-hour shifts dealing with very ill patients and their distraught families she and her fellow workers used to unwind with a few drinks at an early morning bar before going home to bed. It helped them to cope.

Not all of us have conventional lifestyles and society should allow for this.
