In response to the letter from Mr Martin Muir, "City rail users in a jam".

There is no 08:56 train from Newton, so we are assuming he is referring to the 07:56. The service from Newton normally runs as a six-car train.

Since September 30 it has only had three carriages, as they were being used to train drivers to operate on the newly electrified route between Whifflet and Glasgow.

This training is almost complete and a six-car service is planned to resume from Monday October 20. Another piece of good news is that, from December, more trains will call at Newton.

We apologise to Mr Muir and other customers for the inconvenience and hope they will have a more comfortable journey very shortly.

Re Glasgow Airport sold to consortium in £1bn deal: As Heathrow Airport has its Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect rail services, as well as the underground, the Glasgow Airport Rail Link is surely a high priority. Will there be the same ensuing 'foreign furore' over this purchase as with Abellio's takeover of Scotrail?

Why free him?

Why was Jonathan Kelly, who is now being hunted by armed police as he is considered as too dangerous to approach, released from prison in the first place? We should be demanding answers from those who approved his release.

Cold comfort

How can those running our hospitals say, every year at about this time, that there may be a winter bed crisis because people might get flu and other bugs?

It's a bit like the roads authorities saying the bad weather has come as a bit of a surprise.

For goodness sake, winter happens every year.

Why do hospital bosses in Scotland not make preparations well in advance for the likelihood that there will be more people than usual in their wards during the winter months?
