I'M getting confused.

On Monday Jim Murphy made yet another announcement. This time along with Gordon Brown, they said that if all of Scotland votes Labour (and also England), they might form the next UK Government.

So far so good! But their announcements differed from their previous stances.

They now claim to want Scotland to "top up benefits" including the state pension and child benefit. Only two months ago, Labour sided with the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in the Smith Commission to limit devolution.

If they sincerely wanted to make a significant announcement, they should reject the promises made by Ed Miliband and Ed Balls that a Labour Government will match the Conservatives' planned cuts.

Thanks from nurse

I JUST wanted to thank Phil McKracken (Points of View, February 2) for his letter praising all staff at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

It makes a nice change not to be reading negative comments about the overworked staff in all of our hospitals.

We all do our jobs to the best of our ability and with what resources we have.

It is a hard enough job without being put down time and time again for situations that are beyond our control, so thank you Phil from one exhausted nurse.

Ring fence NHS

JUST a random thought, but if foreign aid deserves to be ring fenced at 0.7 per cent of GDP why is the NHS not ring fenced at 10 per cent of GDP, or more?

Is that too simple for Westminster to comprehend? Perhaps the current coalition or Labour could come up with an answer.

Grow up!

So there we had two major sporting events taking place at the weekend. One attracted generations of families, sporting personalities, pop stars past and present, fireworks and amazing family entertainment.

The other attracted thousands of 'fans' who were carefully marshalled by hundreds of police, riot vans up every side street, mounted police and grown men shouting sectarian and obscene slogans.

One was the Super Bowl in the States and the other the Celtic v Rangers game. Will we ever join the grown ups?
