the Daniel Duncan van in Friday's Memories section belonged not to the drapery firm but to a haulage firm of the same name, which was based in Tyndrum Street.

The company was later taken over by John Menzies.

I know this because my late father worked for both these companies.

And, as we lived in Cowcaddens, the buildings in the background of the photograph were very familiar.

Thank you for the memories.

Ban fireworks

For the past few weeks we have had to put up with the usual morons setting off fireworks and terrifying our pets and children.

This could be avoided if the Government clamped down on the sale of fireworks before November 5.

Or, better still, they should ban them from sale to the public altogether and only allow properly organised displays.

Murphy's blaw

SO Jim Murphy wants to fight for "the great honour of leading the Scottish Labour Party". What a joke!

He claims he is fed up of Labour leaders in London not delivering on their election promises.

Yet he campaigned for us to stay together. Did he really think Scotland would get a fair deal from London?

I hope we have more sense than to elect him as an MSP.

Bugs on bus

With regard to John Kelly's letter (Evening Times, Saturday) re. parking at the new South Glasgow Hospital's site.

It is not simple to suggest people should use public transport for hospital visits.

Apart from the poor service, there is also an important factor for visitors. Buses are full of people with viruses and colds.

I have a reduced immune system, due to a transplant, and often pick up bugs.

Private cars offer a more sterile environment.

Hospitals don't want people bringing in more diseases.
