REGARDING the story "Parking plan sparks row" (September 1), it gives the impression that residents are against council parking proposals for the Dowanhill and Byres Road area.

The situation in Hillhead, caused by having large numbers of empty residents-only parking bays, is different from the situation in Dowanhill and South Byres Road, where there is a serious problem of traffic using the area to avoid charges elsewhere.

Most people I have spoken to support the council's proposals.

Yes risk to NHS

IF THERE is a Yes vote, that will be the end of the NHS.

It will be the SHS with no access to specialists in former Union countries.

Scots will need travel insurance for the British Isles. We won't even have an EU medical card until we rejoin the EU, if at all.

Tram solution

REGARDING "Business leaders hit out as bus gate fines hit £1.5m" (August 30) - it should be used by the council to reintroduce trams to Glasgow, which will greatly reduce pollution from other road traffic.

Why is Glasgow missing out on having trams back? Just take a look at Manchester, they open their latest tram line going all the way to the airport this November, well ahead of time.

I have started a campaign to have trams back in Glasgow, and Transport Minister Keith Brown, you must give the green light to Glasgow having trams. There are too many buses giving out lots of pollution.

Do give your support for trams back in Glasgow.

Great Gamp's

REGARDING the theme-pub picture on your memories page (August 26) of Gamp's, it was my favourite watering hole in those days. They also had umbrellas suspended from the ceiling upside down.
