I WORK for a big high street store and was shocked to see a customer ask for a replacement tub of margarine because the one she'd picked up had a slight crack in the lid.

A replacement tub was brought and the one with the cracked lid was thrown into the "wastage" bin to be destroyed.

In a climate where we have people going to foodbanks, what does this say about us, the consumers? Have we become so fussy that a tub of margarine with a slightly cracked lid is unsuitable for consumption?

I realise that supermarkets have to comply with food regulations but this waste of perfectly good food is utterly disgraceful.

Poll outrage

I FIND it outrageous that a soldier, who was born in Clydebank, lived all of his life there until he joined a Scottish regiment, served in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan and, as a serving soldier, is now based in England has no right to a vote in this up-coming referendum.

This ruling will affect hundreds of service men and women and their families who have no choice where to live while they serve our country.

Flag attacked

I AM a Yes voter and erected a Saltire flag in my garden.

I came home this evening to discover that someone had taken it upon themselves to vandalize it. The flag was ripped- a fellow countryman defacing his national flag.

I respect other people's opinion - if they vote No, so be it. Our biggest enemy isn't Westminster but the enemy within.

Keep drink ban

REGARDING Victoria Park pub plan (Evening Times, September 10) new Labour privatised our housing, handing it over to GHA Wheatley Group.

Now they want to privatise our parks.

The council banned alcohol in public - that has been a good thing and should remain.
