ON the national anthem issue, after the result of the referendum, which ever side you were on, I don't see how we can honestly have Flower of Scotland as a national anthem.

How can we sing these lines but we can still rise now and be the nation again and not look a complete laughing stock across the globe. Flower of Scotland tune yes, rewritten words yes, but not in its present format or how about something entirely different. A Man's a Man for A' That is my suggestion.

I WAS reading your report on how lack of exercise is just as bad as smoking for people's health. I suppose all it takes is to get out for a brisk walk to make people feel fitter both physically and mentally, but what chance to we have in the weather we suffer in the winter.

No wonder we have winter blues and health problems in this dark, cold country.

GREAT idea to generate something different at the Botanics with the electric light event.

It has worked well in other areas and I hope the Glasgow event will be just as big a hit. It is amazing venue and to have it set in lights will really be something.

GLAD to see there is another initiative to help veterans into further education. These are exactly the kind of people we should be helping.

They have done their bit for us, now it's time we gave something back to help them.

REGARDS the cat dumped near to the Clyde tunnel, I'd like to see whoever did that dumped somewhere in a cage in the cold wind and rain, with no food or covers. If you don't want your animals, for whatever reasons, there are ways to give them up for adoption. Thanks to the SPCA for doing what they do.

ON walking past the old Renfrew ferry last weekend, I noticed nine lifebelts amongst all the debris. What makes people throw them into the river.
