The pupils at John Paul Academy however are united and their decision to opt for a full school uniform is the latest effort that has seen significant improvements in the school in recent years.

It is the latest development that illustrates the ethos that has seen the school reduce its exclusions to the lowest in Glasgow and has made good progress on exam results and staying on rates.

The success is achievable because the pupils are right behind the effort to drive up standards and the vote to ditch the clothing free- for-all in favour of smart uniform is an example of this.

It wont be the right policy for every school, but in this case it is further strengthening the ethos of a school identity working towards a common purpose where everyone works to achieve their potential.

Many schools in Glasgow have a long way to go before they catch up with the national average in attainment but John Paul pupils can be an inspiration for others to take pride in their school and work together with the staff for a prosperous future.
