Musicians and spectators flock here each year to enjoy Piping Live and the prestigious World Pipe Band Championships in what has become the pinnacle of achievement for all bands.

For Glasgow, it is another boost to our economy and reputation around the world that tens of thousands want to return year after year to the city.

Securing the event for a long period is testament to the skills of the organisers and the welcome the city provides which makes the idea of looking elsewhere almost unthinkable.

The Worlds, as they are known, are also now an annual favourite with people in the city, who look forward to the bands from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America competing with the very best of Scottish talent.

When the city is filled next week with a kalaedoscope of tartan and the sound of pipes and drums, it will be yet another reminder of Glasgow's ever increasing standing around the world.

With the Commonwealth Games, and hopefully the Youth Olympics to follow, the opportunity for enhancing that reputation is one that is too good to miss.
