Hopefully, before the kick-off, more people will purchase tickets and witness some of the best young footballers and some of the best in the women's game grace the Hampden turf.

It is wonderful for the city to be part of the Olympics and to offer the change for people in Glasgow and Scotland to attend without travelling to London.

Hampden has played host to some of the most memorable matches in world football with the European Cup Finals of 1960, 1976 and 2002 and countless great Scotland internationals.

The Olympics will be another chapter in the history of the world famous stadium and, in two years time, it will be transformed again into a different sporting arena.

These Olympic events will give the city a glimpse of what is to come in two years time when we host the Commonwealth Games, with Hampden hosting the athletics events.

Then Glasgow will be top of the bill and will host all the major events with many of the world's best and the next generation of global stars in a variety of sports competing here.
