OPINION: Your paper speaks up for a better Glasgow

THE Evening Times' success at the Press awards is recognition of the papers' commitment to campaigning on issues that will improve Glasgow.

Where action needs to be taken whether it is from government, council or by individual people the Evening Times will be there to lead the way.

Streets Ahead has captured the imagination and is seeing groups of people across the city getting together with the help of city organisations and completing their own projects changing the city for the better.

Opt for Life aims to ensure more people are alive for longer and end the tragic loss of life because there is a shortage of organ donors.

These are the latest in a long line of campaigns that have provoked action from government ministers...

From ensuring the link between the children's hospital and the Queen Mother's maternity is maintained when they become part of the new Southern General, and forcing new laws on rented student flats after the death of two young men trapped in a Glasgow flat fire.

But these campaigns were successful for one key reason – that they had the people of Glasgow behind them. Without our readers' backing they would not be possible.

When the people of Glasgow speak, governments listen.
