Manchester City all but crashed out of the Champions League last night, despite battling back to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Ajax.
Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero struck for the home side but the result leaves City winless in Group D.
City defender Vincent Kompany said: "It's very important to defend as a team when corners come in and we've let ourselves down there.
"It's not that we're not good enough for the Champions League but it's a matter of time."
In Germany, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was in upbeat mood after his team drew 2-2 with Schalke 04 in Group B.
The London club's strikes came from Theo Walcott, his 50th goal for Arsenal, and Olivier Giroud, but the home team battled back to earn a point.
Wenger said: "It was a difficult game – a good one as well, both teams played very well.
"It was unfortunate we conceded a goal before half-time, and in the last minute we had the chance for 3-2, but I think a draw was fair."
