JACK (Cowglen) – Can you give me details of Bobby Russell's football career at Rangers?

Bobby Russell first joined Rangers from Shettleston Juniors all the way back in 1977 as a 20-year-old.

An outstanding midfielder for Rangers, who played 370 times and scored 46 goals for the Ibrox club. He won a League championship, two Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

Bobby scored a memorable winning goal in 1978 against Dutch masters PSV Eindhoven in the second round of the European Cup.

This was PSV's first home defeat in any European match. Rangers eventually went through 3-2 on aggregate over both legs.

DAVID JACKSON (Glasgow) – In 1968 Celtic defeated Hamilton Accies 10-0 in a League Cup match, can you let me know who the goalscorers were, please?

This match was played on September 11, 1968, and took place at Parkhead.

At the interval Celtic led 4-0 with goals by Chalmers (2) and Lennox (2).

In the second half the goals continued with three from Chalmers and three from Lennox which meant both players shared the 10 goals.

Celtic went through on a 14-2 aggregate score.

BILLY ROUGH (Motherwell) – Scotland faced Wales in the qualifying groups for the 1978 and 1986 World Cups. Could you tell me if the Leeds keeper Gary Sprake played for Wales in any of the ties?

Gary Sprake did not take part in any of these matches. In both the 1978 qualifiers, Dai Davies of Everton was in the Welsh goal. For the 1986 qualifiers, Neville Southall was between the sticks.

ABERDEEN ANGUS (Partick) – I seem to remember that back in the early Seventies Aberdeen's most famous football son, Denis Law, played for Manchester city against the Dons at Pittodrie. It was said that this was the first time Denis had played a senior game in his home city. Could you give me details, please?

Denis had just arrived at City for his second spell there when they visited the Granite City on August 1, 1973.

City won 1-0 in front of an estimated crowd of 25,000. Francis Lee scored the game's only goal. Teams:

Aberdeen: Clark, Williamson, Hermiston, Thomson, Young, Smith, Willoughby, Graham, Mitchell, Jarvie and Purdie.

Manchester City: Corrigan, Book, Donachie, Doyle, Booth, Oakes, Summerbee, Marsh, Law, Lee and Towers.

This does seem to be the first senior appearance for Denis in his home city.
