All-time great, centre-forward Hughie joined Airdrie from Queen of the South in 1921 and left the Lanarkshire club for Newcastle United in 1925. He later played for Chelsea, Derby County, Notts County and Grimsby Town.
Throughout his club career Hughie was a noted goalscorer and he brought his scoring touch into the international arena.
He was capped 20 times for Scotland and scored a remarkable total of 23 goals.
