A RACIST thug gouged a broken bottle into a man's neck and held two large knives to his throat, a court heard.

During the horrific assault, Scott McFarlane, 17, shouted racist abuse at 20-year-old South African Wesley Seroot and told him: "Get back to your own country."

McFarlane ordered Mr Seroot to hand over clothes and personal items, putting them in two suitcases.

McFarlane also forced his victim to write him a cheque for £1000.

At the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, McFarlane, c/o Greenock Prison, admitted severely assaulting Mr Seroot and robbing him and his girlfriend, Deborah Black, of a cheque for £1000, a DVD player, DVDs and CDs, a games console, clothes, watches, a mobile phone and £5.

He also admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner and making racist remarks.

He will be sentenced next month.

McFarlane's girlfriend, Sarah Dunbar, 17, c/o the YMCA in Argyle Street, Paisley, was freed when the Crown accepted her plea of not guilty to the robbery.

Bernard Ablett, prosecuting, said the attack happened in March when Mr Seroot went to the front door of his flat at Brabloch Park, Paisley, for a pizza delivery.

He saw McFarlane's girlfriend standing outside, thought he recognised her and asked them inside.

They had a drink and McFarlane hit Mr Seroot on the head with a vodka bottle and thrust it into his neck, causing him to bleed profusely.

After screaming racist remarks at Mr Seroot, McFarlane got two large knives from the kitchen and held them across his throat.

In hospital, Mr Seroot had 21 stitches put in his neck wound, which narrowly missed two major blood vessels.
