ALLY McCoist will consider his position as Rangers manager if the abuse he is receiving starts to take its toll on his family.

McCoist was urged to quit by furious Gers fans after the humiliating 3-2 Petrofac Training Cup semi-final defeat to Alloa on Wednesday night.

There have also been increasing calls for him to resign on supporters' internet forums and radio phone-ins in the days since the loss to the minnows.

The Ibrox club's all-time leading goalscorer has vowed to carry on - and has stressed he remains determined to win promotion back to the top flight.

However, he has admitted that the fall-out from the shock defeat to the part-time Wasps has "not been pleasant".

And the father-of-five has confessed that if the flak that has flown in his direction begins to affect his family he will review his situation.

Asked if he would have a decision to make about his role if the pressure started to take its toll on his family, McCoist said: "One hundred per cent. There's nothing more important than my family."

He added: "I think the older ones - I can't speak for them, I can only speak to them - are sensible enough to see the bigger picture and I'm hoping the younger ones are too young to see it.

"I'm very, very hopeful that I don't take it home. In saying that, you would have to ask people at my home.

"But I don't think I take it home. And I think it is very, very important that I don't take it home."

Speculation has been rife this week that the Rangers board will axe McCoist as manager after a run of disappointing results.

But the 52-year-old, whose side take on Cowdenbeath in the SPFL Championship at Ibrox this afternoon, is confident he can lead Rangers into the Premiership.

He said: "I've got absolutely no reason to doubt that I have their [the Rangers board] support. And until I hear otherwise then I couldn't comment on it.

"I've got absolutely no doubt at this moment of time that I have their support because I haven't heard otherwise."

McCoist added: "Once you start feeling sorry for yourself, which I won't do and I don't do, you maybe take your eye off the ball a little bit.

"There was always going to be flak flying about throughout the last three years - and in the future there will be flak flying about.

"The fact of the matter is we have won two titles, and you'd have to say won them convincingly.

"We've got a job on our hands to win this year, but we still believe we can do it.

"And that is where all the focus is at this moment in time, on the game against Cowdenbeath and future league games."
