ALLY McCOIST insists Rangers can take nothing for granted as they bid to extend their stunning league start this weekend.

The Light Blues have a perfect record in League One so far this term and fired eight goals past Stenhousemuir at Ibrox last Saturday.

Next on the agenda for the champions is a trip to Somerset Park on Sunday to face promotion- chasing Ayr United.

The Honest Men have made a solid start to the campaign under boss Mark Roberts.

And McCoist is expecting a stern test of his side's title credentials.

He said: "I know their manager very well, I played with him down at Kilmarnock, he likes to attack being a forward player himself.

"They have come off a sore one up at Dunfermline, a 5-1 defeat, so they will be looking to make amends for that result.

"I would imagine the atmosphere and the opposition will be exactly the same in terms of the intensity and their desire to do well against Rangers.

"That will be the same at every away ground we go to.

"Ayr on Sunday will be no different so it will be a tough, tough game and mentally and physically we will have to be spot on to get the points.

"I remember going down there myself with Rangers and it is a tough place to play.

"The home fans generate a very good atmosphere and get right behind their team.

"That is something I hope we can feed off as much as the Ayr United boys.

"The majority of our away games have been packed out and there has always been a terrific atmosphere.

"The game this weekend will also be televised, which brings with it extra pressure and intensity so we are really looking forward to it."

The Ayrshire clash will see former Gers striker Kevin Kyle face McCoist's side for the first time since his Ibrox exit.

The striker only made a handful of appearances before leaving the club by mutual consent in March after an injury hit spell.

"We look forward to seeing the big fella," McCoist told rangers.co.uk.

"He came in and did us a turn and we wished him well. He's obviously continuing his career down in Ayr and if he's involved at the weekend we certainly look forward to seeing him."
