ALLY McCOIST insists Rangers won't get too far ahead of themselves after seeing off Premiership high-flyers Inverness Caley Thistle on Tuesday night.

Lewis Macleod netted the only goal of the game at Ibrox to continue the Light Blues' impressive recent run of form and see them take their first top flight scalp of the season.

McCoist's side could get the chance to square up to more higher division teams if they can progress past Falkirk in the League Cup next week and get into the latter stages of the Scottish Cup.

A trip to Alloa on Saturday remains top of Rangers' agenda though as they battle it out with Hearts for the Championship title.

The Gers haven't been beaten since going down to the Jambos on the opening day of the second tier campaign several weeks ago but McCoist won't allow expectation levels to soar too high as the champions look to finish what they have started.

He said: "We've lost one game this season and in that we lost a goal in the 94th minute. It was a game we could have won.

"I was never going to start pressing panic buttons then in the same way I'm not going to start getting carried away with a couple of good results.

"The season is a marathon and I've maintained right through that the league is the main priority for us.

"We want to give the fans and indeed the staff a cup run if we can but when we got beaten by Inverness the last time, we weren't too disappointed.

"We couldn't take our eye off the bigger picture and if that was the case then we certainly won't do that now when we've been fortunate enough to get a victory."
