Blues title bubbly may be put on ice

Victory for the Gers at home to Stirling Albion at lunchtime, coupled with a draw or defeat for nearest challengers Queen's Park later in the day, would see them confirmed as champions.

The Spiders' clash with Annan is in serious doubt, however, with the Galabank pitch under a couple of inches of snow and ice.

It is highly doubtful that the game will go ahead, leaving Rangers frustrated as they bid to cross the finishing line and lift silverware.

One man who won't feature this afternoon is striker Fran Sandaza after he was suspended on full pay as the club conduct a high-level investigation into comments he allegedly made during a prank call this week.

In the call, which was broadcast on the internet on Tuesday evening, the Spaniard appears to reveal details of his Ibrox contract, claims he only joined Rangers for the money and expresses his interest in a summer switch to the MLS after criticising the standard of play in the Irn-Bru Third Division and the Scottish climate.

McCoist said: "Fran has been suspended on full pay pending an internal investigation.

"I was at a meeting yesterday morning and I'm told it will hopefully last no longer than a week. That's all I can say on it.

"We had a meeting with Fran and we will see where the investigation takes us.

"It's far too early to say anything else. I wouldn't say anything that would pre-judge the investigation.

"I've had lots of different opinions on what happened but I can't say anymore. I will talk about it after we look into it.

"I'd like to think I'll be consulted and involved in proceedings. I'll be there if anyone needs me or my opinions.

"The other people involved in the meeting were the top brass – Charles Green and HR."

If Sandaza is still at Ibrox next season he could be joined by United striker Jon Daly, with McCoist revealing he has held talks with the Irishman over a Bosman switch this summer.

Daly is out of contract at the end of the season and McCoist is keen to do a deal to bolster his Light Blues attacking arsenal.

He said: "We are interested and there has been contact made between the clubs and indeed between myself and the player and the player's agent.

"It's sensitive for me as the big fella has games to play for the club he's with and the last thing I want to do is upset anyone.

"I have to be honest and say that he's someone I'm interested in. I have spoken to him and it went absolutely fine."
