No, says John McGill
KENNY McDowall has shown during his time with Celtic and Rangers what a talented coach he is.
But is he capable of stepping up to become manager of the Ibrox club? I seriously doubt it. It is one thing taking training with the first team at the Glasgow giants.
But selecting a winning team is quite another.
As are dropping underperformers, directing proceedings successfully in the dugout and dealing with the media.
Being in charge of the Gers is one of the most demanding roles in Scottish football.
At the moment in particular. Is McDowall, for all his strengths, up to the challenge? I am not sure that he is.
Ally McCoist was a big personality and was capable of dealing with being in the spotlight at the Light Blues come good or bad.
Can his successor?
I fear any hopes that he has of being appointed on a permanent basis will be short-lived.
Money is in short supply down Govan way at the moment. But I think another manager will be appointed sooner rather than later.
