YES says MATTHEW LINDSAY:

IF Rangers perform like they did against Alloa at Ibrox on Saturday when they play Hearts at Tynecastle this weekend they will lose.

But I would expect to see a reaction to the deeply disappointing 1-1 draw with their part-time opponents.

There was certainly a positive response to the 3-1 defeat at home to Hibs at Ibrox back in September. The team went on an eight-game winning run.

Had the Gers grown complacent after such an impressive streak? It is quite possible. I also don't expect the side that took to the field against the Wasps to start again.

Several players will find themselves dropped against the SPFL Championship leaders as a consequence of the showing against Alloa too.

The League One champions had a collective off day. But before that they had been doing well and had not conceded a goal in six games.

If they can rediscover the form they showed against, say, Falkirk they can win in the capital and move to within three points of the leaders.

NO says JOHN McGILL

RANGERS were outplayed by Hearts on the opening day of the SPFL Championship at Ibrox - and not much has changed since then.

The Jambos have consistently produced by far the better football in the second tier since that 2-1 win away from home.

Robbie Neilson's side are six points clear at the top of a table on merit. The capital club have won all six of their games at home in the league - scoring 22 goals and conceding just four times.

Rangers could theoretically give Hearts a game on their own turf if they collectively perform to the best of their abilities.

But can they lift themselves after their abject display in the 1-1 draw with part-time Alloa at the weekend and triumph?

I doubt it. There is an awfully long way still to go this season. But I think Ally McCoist's will have to rely on the play-offs to get back to the top flight.

I anticipate the home team will take all three points and go on to win the title.
