STEVE SIMONSEN has vowed Rangers will not allow their minds to wander on righting last season's Challenge Cup final wrong just yet.

The Ibrox club were beaten back in April by Raith Rovers at Easter Road courtesy of a late extra-time goal from John Baird.

It was a disappointment which cast a shadow over an otherwise successful campaign for Ally McCoist's men, who romped to the SPFL League One title.

Rangers were yesterday drawn to face Alloa away from home in this year's semi-final - if they manage to get the better of East Fife in next month's last eight tie in Methil.

And while the Light Blues goalkeeper is keen to exorcise demons of that final fright show back in April, he stressed the Glasgow club will not take their progression in the Petrofac Training Cup as a given.

He said: "We have a lot of business to take care of before we have the chance to face Alloa and our focus has to be on East Fife. Having said that, I am sure it will be another difficult game at an away ground, should we progress, but we will be ready for it.

"There are no easy games and we have the utmost respect for all the teams we play but we want to go one step better and win the Petrofac Cup this year."

Meanwhile, the club received a boost yesterday with the news injured frontman Jon Daly made it through an Under-20s match against Aberdeen at Murray Park.

The Irishman, who was Rangers' top scorer last season, missed the start of the campaign and pre-season with a knee injury but managed 45 minutes in Gordon Durie's side's 3-2 defeat.
