The former Scotland and Rangers striker has been training with Ally McCoist's side this month and it appears his American dream is over.
Boyd had been signed by former Timbers coach John Spencer after spells at Eskisehirspor and Middlesbrough.
But it was at Kilmarnock and Rangers that the now 29-year-old had his most successful spells and he is the all-time top scorer in the history of the SPL.
However, if the Ibrox club were interested then Boyd would not be able to play until September when Gers' transfer embargo ends.
Meanwhile, Ian Durrant has predicted fans will still turn out in force if the Ibrox club has to play in the bottom division again next season.
The coach branded controversial proposals to introduce a 12-12-18 set-up for the start of the 2013/14 campaign "unfair".
But the Light Blues great is convinced that, if they need to play the likes of Annan, Clyde and East Stirling again, their supporters will continue to back them in large numbers.
Rangers this week revealed that over 38,000 people had bought season tickets for Ibrox – more than they got when they were playing in the SPL.
Durrant said: "The fans are with the club 100%.
"I think they see what Mr Green (club chief executive Charles) and the manager are trying to do, how they are trying to push the club forward on and off the park.
"I am sure that whatever league we are in, wherever we may be, the fans will be there for us 100%.
"Their support this year has been fantastic. We will break through the half a million mark for attendances in league games at Ibrox in our next home game against Montrose next week.
"That is incredible. It is great testament to their backing. Their away support has been fantastic as well. They have been through thick and thin with us and I am sure they will continue to back us no matter where we end up playing.
"It is up to us now to get a team on the park that is worthy of them."
The Ibrox club's league clash with Stirling Albion will be played at Forthbank on Tuesday, February 26, at 7.45pm, because McCoist's men are on Scottish Cup duty against Dundee United on February 2.
