JON DALY hopes the pain of last season's cup defeats can inspire Rangers to knock-out silverware this term.

Ally McCoist's side face East Fife in the Petrofac Training Cup last eight tomorrow night and have a Scottish Cup tie against Dumbarton a week on Saturday.

The Gers lost to Raith in the Ramsdens Cup final last term and went down to Dundee United in the Scottish Cup semis.

Daly said: "We know the squad we have is an excellent squad and there's plenty of strength in depth too.

"It's a cup that we want to go and win. We are in the quarter finals and it's a chance to get to the semis against Alloa and then try and win it.

"It would be great to go on and win silverware because that's what you look back on when your career is over.

"Last year still hurts and the semi-final defeat to Dundee United hurts as well. So hopefully, we can use that as a tool to help ourselves go further in these tournaments."

Rangers head to Methil tomorrow on the back of a 6-1 Championship triumph over Raith on Saturday.

McCoist's side are nine points adrift at the top of the table and Daly said: "Hearts are on a crest of a wave right now and they are flying high.

"But it's down to us just to concentrate on ourselves and try not to worry about Hearts.

"Obviously, it's a result we look for when we come in, but we need to make sure it doesn't get to us, and go out and do our job and get three points ourselves.

"Then whatever Hearts do is secondary to our own results.

"There is still a long way to go in the season and they have obviously given themselves a great advantage at the moment, but it's something that we relish by trying to close that gap and hopefully we can get in touch with them soon."
