JON Daly had no qualms about dropping down two divisions to sign for Rangers after the Ibrox club came in for him last summer.

And he has revealed that, as Ally McCoist's side edge closer to the business end of the season, he now feels vindicated by his decision.

The Glasgow giants are 23 points clear at the top of the SPFL League One table and, if they keep on winning, will sew up the title if they beat second-top Dunfermline on March 15.

They are still involved in both the William Hill Scottish Cup and the Ramsdens Cup thanks in no small part to the goals their striker has plundered.

The big Irishman was criticised for lacking ambition and accused of being motivated by money when he left top-flight club Dundee United.

But having the chance to land not one but three pieces of silverware in the 2013/14 campaign is exciting the 31-year-old.

And the man who helped United to beat Ross County at Hampden to lift the Scottish Cup back in 2010 is confident his side can be successful.

"Getting the chance to win trophies and titles is the reason why I signed for Rangers," he explained.

"When I first talked to the manager last year he spoke highly of the club and of the fans and every word he said to me back then has been true.

"It has been a fantastic experience being a player at Rangers. I have enjoyed every minute of it.

"We are doing well in the league and are still involved in two cup competitions which is great.

"If you are still in there then you are obviously in with an opportunity to win them. We are still going strong and have a chance to progress."

Daly has played in more first-team games than any other player at Rangers other than club captain Lee McCulloch this season.

The experienced forward has featured in 29 matches in all competitions - just one fewer than his skipper.

He has netted 21 goals, too - the latest of which came in a 2-0 win over Ayr United at Somerset Park.

Not surprisingly, the 6ft 3in hitman has been taken to the hearts of the Light Blues support this term.

Yet, Daly is refusing to relax and enjoy his success until silverware is safely deposited in the trophy room at Ibrox.

And the Dubliner is focusing fully on the league games they have coming up - starting with the match against Stenhousemuir at Ibrox this weekend.

He said: "The expectation level at this club is so high that you can't afford to take your foot off the pedal for a second.

"You need to keep churning out decent performances and picking up three points every week whether you are at home or away.

"When the cup games come around they will look after themselves. We need to concentrate on the league between now and then.

"We have to try and get over the finishing line. We have to try and clinch the title as soon as we can. When the cup comes along we will look forward to that."

Daly added: "We will keep going. We need to keep on winning games in the league. Our focus is on our game against Stenhousemuir this weekend. They have given us a couple of extremely difficult games at Ochilview this season so we know what they are capable of.

"We will have to work hard to pick up three points. We just need to concentrate on every game as it comes along."

Daly has played in attack with a variety of strike partners since joining Rangers; Nicky Clark, Andy Little, Dean Shiels and David Templeton.

But since Clark has been sidelined with a broken bone in a foot he has teamed up with Shiels to devastating effect.

The Northern Ireland internaitonal has bagged six goals in as many games since being brought back into the fold by manager McCoist.

His team-mate has enjoyed playing alongside the 29-year-old and feels they complement each other in the final third.

Daly said: "Obviously losing Nicky Clark to his foot injury was a blow. But that has meant Dean has got a chance and he has taken it.

"He has had to wait a long time to get in. He has had a few niggles and they have held him back this season.

"But since getting over his injury problems and coming back into the team he has shown what he is capable of.

"Everyone in the Rangers squad knew that Dean was a class act and now he is showing that. Dean is a very, very clever player.

"He is a fantastic player and I really enjoy playing up front with him. He is a clever player, we have different strengths and I think we have linked up quite well."
