DARREN McGREGOR has dragged Rangers to the brink of a place in the SPFL Premiership - despite not training in nearly TWO WEEKS due to an injury.

Gers centre-half McGregor was immense once again in his side's 1-0 defeat to Hibs in the second leg of the play-off semi-final at Easter Road on Saturday.

The 29-year-old helped Stuart McCall's side withstand an all-out onslaught from the home side at the start and end of a nervy 90 minutes.

The 2-1 aggregate triumph over the capital club ensured the Glasgow giants progressed to the two-legged final against Motherwell - and now promotion is within their grasp.

But Nicky Law has revealed how his team-mate, who was last week voted Rangers Player of the Year, has been playing through the pain barrier to help the Light Blues clinch a place in the top flight.

He said: "Darren has been excellent for us this season and it's great that we'll have him available for the first leg against Motherwell at Ibrox on Thursday night.

"He hasn't trained for nearly two weeks because he's been carrying a knock. I think that shows you exactly the kind of character he is.

"Daz hasn't cared about any discomfort he may have been experiencing. He has just gone out there and played in the games and he has still been excellent for us."

McGregor, a free transfer signing last summer, will miss the second leg of the play-off final with the Steelmen at Fir Park on Sunday due to a suspension.

He picked up his sixth booking of the 2014/15 campaign in the second leg of the quarter-final against Queen of the South eight days ago and has been hit with a one-game ban by the SFA.

The former Cowdenbeath and St Mirren man has formed a great central defensive partnership with Marius Zaliukas this month and will be a huge loss to McCall.

However, Law is confident Rangers can cope without their star defender and return to the top flight of Scottish football after a three-year absence.

He reckons club captain Lee McCullloch, who was drafted back into the starting line-up against Hibs, or Bilel Mohsni, can do a great job for the Light Blues in their final fixture of the season.

He said: "Jig (McCulloch) came in on Saturday and was unbelievable for us. He put his head in where it hurt and made some crucial late blocks.

"His experience alone is great for the team. He has played in a lot of massive games in his career and won't be fazed by the prospect of being involved in either of the play-off final matches.

"Bilel is also available if we need him. He is a guy who has great ability and has shown he can perform in big games for Rangers in the past.

"Of course, losing Darren is a blow to us because he is an important player for the team, but the manager definitely has options.

"Whether the gaffer wants to play three at the back, as we did against Hibs on Saturday and Queen of the South two weeks before that, or a four, he has players who can come in and perform well.

"Not just at centre-half either. There are a lot of good players in every position who are training hard and well, and are itching to get their chance in the first team in these matches.

"Yes, we are all feeling tired after a lot of big games in a long, hard season, but adrenalin and the chance to get back to the Premiership will get us through these games."
