Light Blues fans around the world have been mourning the loss of the Ibrox icon since he passed away on Thursday evening. And many Gers supporters want to see the Glasgow club honour the memory of the former full-back in some way. Retiring the No.2 jersey that the defender wore with such distinction at Rangers has been mooted as a possible mark of respect. And renaming The Family Stand as The Sandy Jardine Stand is another idea that has been mooted.

Johnstone played alongside Jardine, who passed away aged 65 after a brave fight against cancer, in the Gers defence for many years.

DJ believes Rangers should do something to remember his legendary team mate by - and is confident they will.

He said: "Naming a stand after him would be great. You would never forgot about Sandy if that was to happen. When you go to Fir Park to see Motherwell play, the Davie Cooper Stand and the Phil O'Donnell Stand stick out.

"I think renaming the Family Stand at Ibrox, as some have suggested, would also be a fitting way to honour Sandy."

"Retiring the No.2 jersey would also be fitting. The first time I heard of it being done was when West Ham retired the No.6 jersey that Bobby Moore wore.

"I would 100%support it. Sandy won a European trophy with Rangers and played for them for many years.

"You have to take into consideration just how good a player he was over the years at Rangers. He was definitely a legend."
