RICHARD FOSTER insists the pressure of competing in the Second Division will match that of starring in the SPL after clinching his return to Rangers.

The ex-Ibrox defender has signed a two-year deal with him securing a release from Championship side Bristol City.

Foster turned out in the Champions League and won the SPL in his first stint in Light Blue, and while he faces a new challenge next term, he won't be treating it lightly.

Foster said: "I think it will be similar.

"The fans still demand you win every game here, probably more than ever.

"It's the Second Division, but they are still games we need to win. You have to treat it the same."

It may only be two years since Foster was last a Rangers player, but plenty has changed at Ibrox since he returned to Aberdeen at the end of his season loan.

Instead of running out at Parkhead and Pittodrie, he will travel to the likes of Arbroath and Stranraer on league duty next term but the right-back insists he is fully prepared for the trials and tribulations that lie ahead on the road.

He said: "Yeah, those games will be different but I've played in enough of those in pre-season and in cup games to understand what it's all about.

"The first away game will be an eye opener, but it's another game of football I will want to win. I want to win the league.

"The manager didn't have to explain how different things are. I understand the situation the club is in.

"We'll play one game away to Brechin which will be pretty different, but then you come back to Ibrox and it will be a game where everything feels the same again."

While claiming the Second Division title and moving a step closer to their return to the SPL is Rangers' top priority next term, Ally McCoist's side have been tipped to make a big impact in the three domestic cup competitions.

They will undoubtedly be favourites for the Ramsdens Cup but with Cammy Bell, Stevie Smith, Arnold Peralta, Nicky Law, Jon Daly and Nicky Clark also moving to Ibrox this summer, Foster knows they have what it takes to sample a Hampden showpiece and bid for silver in the Scottish Cup and League Cup.

The defender said: "That would be the hope. Ally has brought in good quality SPL players.

"There will be a lot of competition for places and obviously first and foremost you have to win the league.

"But I think we will be looking to the cups to get a bit of success there as well."

He told RangersTV: "I've just spent a year-and-a-half down in England with Bristol City in the Championship and I've been in a relegation fight in both seasons.

"We ended up going down last season so now I want to be part of a squad that's high on confidence, winning games, challenging for the league and possibly the cups too.

"As a footballer, you want to win games and win trophies so if we win a cup, regardless of what one it is, you still get that winning feeling I had when I won the league here before.

"People want to be part of this so that they can say they were in the squad that got Rangers back from the lower leagues to the top flight, which is where they should be.

"Aside from the fact there's no European football this time around, it could be as good for me here as it was before."
