RANGERS have been told to forget about taking Dorin Goian back to Ibrox after a remarkable U-turn from his Italian club.

The Romanian defender looked certain to be on his way back to Ibrox after his loan spell took a disastrous turn after two sendings-off in three months.

Serie B side Spezia announced they were prepared to let 31-year-old return to Rangers at the start of the year.

The club's sporting director, Nelso Ricci, had said: "Goian has been my biggest disappointment. He was a quality player at Palermo, was a leading defender for both Glasgow Rangers and Romania, but he's simply not been up to the level we expected."

However, he is back in the Spezia squad after serving his suspension.

And manager Michele Serena has now declared he wants Goian in his plans. He said: "Dorin is a professional, he has always trained with great dedication and commitment and has our trust.

"Do not forget that he is foreign and they often need time to settle in.

"Yes, it's true that he played in Italy before with Palermo, but the situation is very different.

"He still has time to settle in with us and he will be an important player for us in the second half of the season."

Goian started the season in the Irn-Bru Third Division with Rangers before returning to Italy's Second Division just before transfer deadline day.
