The striker has endured a frustrating few years at Ibrox as a series of injuries have halted his progress.
Boss McCoist has plenty of attacking options at his disposal but Hemmings is determined to prove his worth after returning from a loan spell with Cowdenbeath.
He said: "That's why I came back from my loan period, I want to impress.
"I've not had the chance to do that so far but when I get an opportunity I'm ready to take it.
"I was almost coming off the bench on Saturday before Blackie (Ian Black) was sent off but it's down to me at the end of the day.
"The Reserve games are my chance to show what I can do in a full game and hopefully it can give the manager food for thought.
"My contract is up at the end of the year so I need to work hard."
Hemmings made an impressive impact in the Irn-Bru First Division as he gained valuable match time with the Fifers.
He said: "It was massive for me, it was an opportunity, after a long string of injuries, to enjoy playing football again and to get my fitness levels up.
"I'm now back and ready to push on here again."
