FRASER AIRD is confident there will be an immediate response from Rangers as they look to get back on track this weekend.

Ally McCoist's players are under huge pressure after Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Hearts that left them nine points adrift in the Championship title race.

Tomorrow's Scottish Cup clash at home to Kilmarnock provides a quick chance to silence the doubters and prove the critics wrong once again.

And Aird is eager to make it a hat-trick of top- flight scalps after wins over St Johnstone and Inverness Caledonian Thistle already this term.

The winger said: "We haven't had a squad meeting or anything. The boys know we need to do better after two bad results.

"That's what happens in football and we won't have a better chance to put things right than on Sunday, when we have another big game against Premiership opposition.

"Hopefully, we can put on a good performance and get the win we need.

"There is no sense of our backs being against the wall - everyone just wants to get out there and prove themselves against a team from the top division.

"When you've had a bad result then you can't wait for the next game so we're all looking forward to facing Kilmarnock.

"We have beaten two Premiership clubs so far this season and now we are looking to make that three on Sunday."

This week Ibrox legend John Brown launched a blistering attack on the likes of Lee McCulloch, Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd in the aftermath of the Jambos defeat.

Boss McCoist was also the target of abuse from sections of the travelling support as fans demand on-field improvements.

Rangers must respond with a win against Killie tomorrow afternoon and Aird is eager to do his bit to ease the pressure.

He said: "Drawing in the league against Alloa at Ibrox and then losing to Hearts clearly wasn't what we wanted.

"But we have another chance to prove ourselves now and I'm positive that we can go out and do just that. At the end of the day the manager has to pick a team and they have to go and perform for him.

"The gaffer has a belief in us and, obviously, we believe in him. At the end of the day, we are all in this together.

"Everyone in the squad gives it their best shot every single week - that is why we are at a big club like Rangers.

"The gaffer has been in the game long enough to know we need to go and get results because that's what football is all about.

"He'll make sure that we are all up for this big game on Sunday."

Frustrated Aird had to watch on from the stands at Tynecastle last weekend ago as his Gers team-mates crashed to a costly Championship defeat.

A thigh strain has kept him sidelined in recent weeks but he is available for selection again after coming through a Development Squad outing against Dundee United in midweek unscathed.

And now the 19-year-old Canadian youngster is determined to make up for lost time.

Aird said: "Obviously, it has been frustrating.

"Injuries are the worst thing in football but I've worked hard to get back and now I want to try to help the boys out.

"I had a good run of games before my injury set me back but now I want to cement my place in the team."
