NICKY Law today revealed how inspirational Rangers captain Lee McCulloch has helped to turn his team into second-half specialists.

Law and his Gers team- mates have an incredible chance to register a perfect season in SPFL League One during the 2013/14 campaign.

They have triumphed in their opening 12 games in the third tier to storm 14 points clear of their nearest rivals Dunfermline.

But it has not all been plain sailing for Ally McCoist's side. Far from it in fact.

Rangers have been level with, or trailing, their opponents at half-time in their last SEVEN matches.

And they have been staring an upset in the face with 45 minutes of the game remaining in 10 of the 18 games they have played in all competititons this term.

The Ibrox club has, then, had to dig deep when the clock has been ticking down in order to maintain its winning run on many occasions.

Law, who has been an ever present in central midfield since joining from Motherwell in the summer, believes McCulloch has been instrumental in all of those fightbacks.

The 35-year-old, a lifelong Rangers supporter, has led by example with his play while, at the same time, driving on those around him on the park.

"Lee is our inspiration," said Law. "He is our captain, our leader and the player we look to when times are tough and when things aren't going to plan.

"When you are up against it in a match, as we have been on many occasions in recent weeks, it is good to have players like Jig there alongside you to drive the team on.

"He is the same every week. He sets the tone for the rest of the team with his play and his attitude.

"Against Dunfermline last week, for example, we were drawing 0-0 at half-time once again. In the second half he went in to two or three tackles early on and won the ball back.

"Everything about him encourages you to play at your best. He really gets everybody going with the way he himself plays and his passion."

He added: "I think teams are setting up against us more defensively than they were at the start of the season. They are proving increasingly difficult for us to break down.

"It is not surprising I suppose because we were defeating teams by comfortable margins at the start of the season, scoring four, five and six goals sometimes.

"If things are not going to plan, if you are struggling to get to grips with a game, Lee will have a little word in your ear and encourage you.

"Things like that are appreciated and are important. On top of everything he does for the team, he pops up and scores goals all the time. It is fitting that he does so."

That has certainly been the case in the last two Rangers games against Dunfermline last week and Airdrie at the weekend.

The visitors at Ibrox were level before McCulloch, despite skippering the side from centre-half, stepped in to spark a turnaround.

In both games the former Motherwell, Wigan and Scotland player has scored penalties - to take his tally for the season to nine.

It is an impressive haul given that McCulloch, who finished last season as top Rangers scorer with 25 goals, has played the majority of his matches in defence.

Law, who has proved he is in no slouch himself when it comes to goalscoring since joining the Govan club, has been hugely impressed.

He said: "Every player in the Rangers team is capable of scoring goals. It is important that we all try to take responsibility for that. It is not just down to the strikers to score goals.

"I certainly like to score whenever I can and am always looking for an opening that I can exploit every time I take to the field for the club.

"But Lee has been unbelievable in that respect. He has scored an awful lot of goals for somebody who plays at the back. Bilel Mohsni, too, has done well there.

"It makes it difficult for opposing teams if they have to be concerned about every rival player, be they defenders, midfielders or strikers, scoring goals."

Law has another break on Saturday as the scheduled League One match against Forfar at Ibrox has been postponed due to Rangers players being away on international duty.

The 25-year-old said: "It will be good to get a week off and prepare ourselves for the games we have coming up. It is a long, hard season and another rest you can get is beneficial."
