NICKY Law today admitted the departure of Newcastle United star Haris Vuckic could damage Rangers' hopes of winning promotion this season.

Slovenian internationalist Vuckic is one of five Newcastle players who joined the Ibrox club on loan last month.

The 22-year-old has been a regular starter for Kenny McDowall's side since arriving in Glasgow and has performed well.

He scored on his debut in the Scottish Cup defeat to Raith Rovers at Ibrox and has been one of the League One champions' most consistent performers.

But there is speculation Mike Ashley could scrap the agreement if there is a change of regime at the Gers and recall the midfielder and his Toon team mates.

And Law, who has played alongside Vuckic, reckons it will adversely affect their chances of going up via the play-offs if he does.

He said: "It would obviously be to the detriment of the team because the boys who have come in are all good players.

"We've only really seen Haris - with the other four boys unfortunately being injured we haven't seen much of them - but he's been great.

"You can see the quality he has brought to us so we would love for him and the others to stay. I am sure the other boys are every bit as good.

"They can only help us achieve our goal come the end of the season if they do stay at the club for the duration of the campaign."

Law is hopeful the 12 players who are out of contract in the summer will discover if they are to be offered deals once the new board takes over.

He said: "It's difficult for the lads who are out of contract as usually around this time of year you learn if you are staying or going.

"At the moment no one really has any idea. Hopefully if the next few weeks those boys will have a bit more of an idea of what is going."
